District 8 Candidate for Nevada Board of Regents.
I am Dr. Kirk Askia Talib-deen; I am a father, husband, Muslim, educator, lecturer, lover of literature, and a social justice advocate. I was raised by a single parent, a Navy man. After dropping out of high school, the school-to-prison pipeline became a lived-reality for me; however, the prison-to-college pipeline was as well.
At a point in my life, someone suggested I consider my education, and once I did, I obtained a Ph.D.
I know what happens when there is a high expectation for someone, and that someone is given an opportunity — endless possibilities. This is what I want students of Clark County to know.
While there is the business of schooling, students are not a commodity. Mark Twain said, “Don’t let your schooling get in the way of your education.” Students’ education must be accessible and affordable, there must be a critical literacy campaign throughout Nevada schools, and there must be equitable wages for those who have a vested interest in students of Nevada.
I don’t profess to be a politician; I am an educator with a genuine concern for students and their ambition toward higher learning. Let’s put an educator on the Board of Regents over District 8.

That Decides Tuition, Aid, and Access
Every policy decision must center the student. He commits to empowering their access, their success, and their future.
He has lived the transformative power of education and believes it is the most effective tool for social mobility.
Regents should be visible and accessible to the communities they represent. He's in the community every week, organizing and listening.
Educators and staff who invest in students deserve institutional support, fair wages, and a seat at the table.
Join the campaign and help put an educator on the Board of Regents.
